Traffio 2024 Q4 Internships
Updated: 4 days ago
December marks not only the end of the year but also when many high schoolers in Years 10, 11 and 12 around Victoria participate in Work Experience and Work Placement. Forming part of the school’s curriculum, the main goal for work experience is for students to have a glimpse into the 9-to-5 grind of adulthood.
However, it also provides a wonderful benefit to the companies and organisations, such as being able to practice onboarding new employees, give back to their community through providing opportunities for young people, and introducing fresh perspectives to an otherwise routine environment. It adds to office culture while also in some instances helping support staff with workloads with easy educational things to hand off.
This week, Traffio welcomed three interns join in on all the fun, two in the Development Team and one in the Marketing Team. Over the course of the week they got to experience being in the office from 9 am to 5 pm, going out for lunch with co-workers, attended meetings with partners and suppliers, and even got involved in some real work.
Martin and Elle have been experiencing the development lifestyle, learning how to code using JavaScript, PHP, and SQL. They’ve been turning their ideas into reality and combing through bugs in their code, while making a miniature version of Traffio! (An example below - this is one where you can sign developers to different locations in a company).
In addition to that, they’ve gotten to sit in on meetings to see how projects are coming along in the Development Team.
Brigitte, who made a splash in marketing (if she does say so herself lol), has been running the Traffio socials all week, and even wrote this article! (Hi) She also got to experience communicating with external clients, checking out the different software used to manage Traffio, learned how to use Adobe Express, led part of the Traffio Team meeting regrading Marketing and completed a competitor analysis.
As part of Traffio's values, there are two that really stand out when supporting work experience projects like this, they are "Levelling up" and It's bigger than just us". The values at Traffio drive things like community support and how the business operates. These two values can be read here >> HERE <<
The week has given the interns a little insight to what the future may hold, with each having some different take aways. Brigitte said "It has shown me the importance of building relationships with people across the business and who you work with, while also how important they are to maintain. Martin said "You shouldn't underestimate the power of copy and pasting." (context unknown)
Elle said "It has given me the ability and knowledge to be more comfortable with adapting to a new environment even with limited understanding."
Overall it is a mutually beneficial program for Traffio to be involved in and the team look forward to welcoming more interns in 2025.
